A Street Accident

A group of students from the drama college were sitting anxiously in the casualty department of the local hospital. Jack, one of their fellow students, had been run (1) by a van and the doctor was examining her in one of the cubicles.
When the van hit him, he had fallen heavily and been knocked (2) . Although it had not taken him long to come (3) , the doctor told his friends that at this stage he could not rule (4) the possibility of head injuries. What made things worse was that Jack’s parents were working overseas and could not be contacted. However, the students had got (5) touch with Jack’s aunt and uncle who were acting (6) guardians and they were on their way to the hospital.
The van driver was claiming that the accident was Jack’s fault. He had brushed (7) the student’s claims that he was speeding, but luckily there were other eyewitnesses who agreed (8) Jack’s friends.
By the time his relatives reached the hospital, Jack had been told that he had no major injuries. The hospital staff, however, were keeping him (9) overnight just as a precaution because she had been unconscious for a time. Jack was relieved that there was nothing seriously wrong. He was playing the lead in the college end-of-the-term play and had been worried that he would have to pull (10) of the part because of his injuries.
